This year the Airborne Public Safety Association 2022 conference was held in Reno, NV. During the event pilots from the United States and several other countries, as well as operators of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) attended safety meetings and several advanced classes/seminars. This training is pivotal to the success of our Air Support Unit.
During the week long conference, several hundred vendors were on hand to show the latest technology and safety equipment of both manned and unmanned operations.
This year the Omaha Police Department had their Bell 505 helicopter on display sponsored by Bell helicopter. This allowed departments to view and visit with a few Omaha PD pilots and Bell helicopter representatives on the capabilities and benefits of the Bell 505.
Omaha Police Department’s Officer Jacob Bettin was nominated and selected as the APSA 2022 Tactical Flight Officer (TFO) of the year award recipient. Officer Bettin was selected for his work on several different operations and highlighted for a call where he located a suspicious vehicle and directed officers to the vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle fired at the officers several times during a pursuit. Officer Bettin followed the vehicle using equipment in Able1 to assist ground officers in the safe apprehension of the parties in the vehicle. Firearms were also seized due to Officer Bettin’s efforts working as a TFO in ABLE1. Officer Bettin’s efforts were highlighted in Reno at a awards event on Friday, July 29th.
Congratulations Officer Bettin!
