Bluejay Softball Announces 2023 Schedule

Creighton softball first-year head coach Krista Wood officially unveiled the 2023 schedule on Wednesday, December 7.

After opening the season with 22 games away from home at three weekend tournaments and a spring break trip to Florida, Creighton returns home to host a total of 16 games, including marquee matchups against in-state rival Omaha and former Missouri Valley Conference rival Drake. 

The Bluejays open the season with four contests at the DePaul Dome Tournament in Chicago, Illinois on Feb. 11-12. Creighton leads off the 2023 campaign with the programs first ever meeting against St. Thomas (9:30 a.m.) and Detroit Mercy (2:30 p.m.) on Feb. 11. The second day of competition places Eastern Kentucky (9 a.m.) and a second meeting with St. Thomas (11:30 a.m.) on tap for Feb. 12. 

The White and the Blue then travel to Stephenville, Texas for five games on Feb. 17-19 at the Texan Invitational. The Bluejays battle Akron (9:30 a.m.) and host Tarleton State (2 p.m.) on Feb. 17, before matching up against Northern Colorado (2 p.m.) and Akron (6:30 p.m.) on Feb. 18. The Texan Invitational concludes on Feb. 19 against Texas A&M-Commerce at 11:15 a.m.

Creighton returns to the south on Feb. 24-26 for the UTEP Invitational, which is co-hosted by New Mexico State. The Bluejays will begin play on Feb. 24 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, as Creighton faces off against New Mexico (3 p.m.) and New Mexico State (7:30 p.m.). CU will then make the trip over to El Paso, Texas to square off against Kansas City (2 p.m.) and UTEP (8 p.m.) on Feb. 25. The final day in El Paso has Tarleton State in Creighton's sights for a game at 10:00 a.m.

The fourth and final tournament of the opening month takes the Bluejays to the Sunshine State for The Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Florida. Creighton is set to take on Bethune-Cookman and Albany on March 4, while matchups against Coastal Carolina and Holy Cross are scheduled for March 5. After a day off, the Bluejays battle LIU and Southern Indiana on March 7, before wrapping up play with a doubleheader against the University of Penn on March 8. 

Following 22 straight games on the road, Creighton is scheduled to open its 17-game home slate with a doubleheader against Kansas City on March 14. 

BIG EAST Conference play starts on March 17-19 when Wood and her team head to Pennsylvania for a weekend series against Villanova. The Bluejays return to the Omaha area to battle crosstown rival Omaha on March 22 before hosting Seton Hall in a three-game series on March 24-26. 

Creighton ends the month of March by renewing its rivalry with former Missouri Valley Conference foe Drake on March 29 after a four-year break in the series. The Bluejays will also take on Butler in a three-game home conference series on March 31-April 2.

The Bluejays will be on the road for six of their first seven game to start April as the team heads east for BIG EAST Conference series at DePaul (April 7-8) and at Georgetown (April 14-16), with a home contest against Omaha on April 11 sandwiched in between. 

Creighton will make the short drive down I-80 to battle rival Nebraska on April 19, before welcoming in Connecticut for a three-game series on April 21-23. 

Creighton closes out the road portion of the regular season with a midweek trip up north to battle South Dakota in a doubleheader on April 25 and a trip to Rhode Island to take on Providence (April 28-30), before ending the regular season with a home series against St. John's on May 5-7. 

The 2023 BIG EAST Championships is scheduled for May 10-13 in Storrs, Connecticut. The top six teams in the final conference regular-season standings will play in the postseason tournament, with the winner receiving the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Regionals.

The 64-team NCAA Tournament is slated to start on May 18 and concludes with the NCAA Women's College World Series on June 1-9 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
