Rep. Don Bacon, representing Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District, has been appointed to two significant subcommittees within the House Committee on Agriculture. These appointments include the Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry as well as the Subcommittee on Conservation, Research, and Biotechnology.
Bacon expressed his enthusiasm for these roles, stating, "We are the number one beef state and I’m glad to serve on the Subcommittee that works livestock issues." He also highlighted his commitment to supporting agricultural research: "Further, I love to champion our universities and the great research they do on Agriculture, and serving on the Conservation, Research and Biotechnology Subcommittee will enhance my voice for research."
The Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry Subcommittee oversees policies related to livestock, poultry, dairy products, seafood commodities and their inspection. It also covers aquaculture, animal welfare, grazing issues and associated oversight.
Meanwhile, the Conservation, Research, and Biotechnology Subcommittee is responsible for matters involving resource conservation; pest and disease management including pesticides; bioterrorism; adulteration; quarantine issues; as well as research education extension biotechnology.
The House Committee on Agriculture comprises six subcommittees with appointments occurring biennially. The other four subcommittees are General Farm Commodities Risk Management Credit Forestry Nutrition Foreign Agriculture Horticulture Commodity Markets Digital Assets Rural Development.
