Rep. Don Bacon from Nebraska's 2nd District has announced his support for the Continuing Resolution (CR) funding bill, H.R. 1968 - Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025. The congressman explained his decision in a statement following the vote.
"I voted for this CR to keep our government open, which enabled us to plus up our military and defenses," said Rep. Bacon. He emphasized that the bill includes a significant pay raise for military personnel, an initiative stemming from the Quality-of-Life panel he chaired and which was incorporated into the FY25 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Additionally, it facilitates new contracts for building warships.
The CR also allocates additional funds to various programs without reducing any existing ones. Specifically, it provides $6 billion more for the Cost of War Toxic Exposure Fund and substantial increases in funding for veterans' benefits and nutritional assistance through WIC.
"While I do not like CR’s, we cannot let the government shut down and not be there to serve the people," Rep. Bacon concluded.
