Creighton University men's golf head coach Judd Cornell has announced the addition of Tristan Nelko to the Bluejay program. Nelko has spent the past four seasons as a member of the University of Nebraska golf team, including the 2018-19 campaign when Cornell was an assistant coach with the Cornhuskers.
Nelko competed in 23 total rounds with the Cornhuskers, averaging 76.48 strokes per round, including a career-best 74.17 average in six rounds during the recently completed 2021-22 season.
"I'm confident Tristan has some great golf in him and I think he will be a great addition for us," said Cornell.
Nelko appeared in a career-high 11 rounds as a freshman in 2018-19 before playing in one tournament (three rounds) each during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
His best round as a Cornhusker came last October, when he finished with a 1-under 71 at the Rich Harvest Farms Invitational in Sugar Grove, Ill. His best finish at NU came in April of 2019 when he tied for 18th place at the Git-R-Done Husker Invitational.
While at Nebraska, Nelko was a four-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection and a three-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. He was also a 2022 recipient of the Sam Foltz 27 Hero Leadership award.
Nelko hails from Plymouth, Minn., where he attended Wayzata High School. He won 9-of-10 tournaments as a senior and captured the individual state championship by tying the state record with a two-round total of 139. He was named Minnesota's Mr. Golf as well as Metro Boys Golfer of the Year after carrying a 69.5 stroke average as a senior. He also helped Wayzata to the Minnesota Class AAA team championship at state as a junior in 2017.
Guided by Cornell, Creighton finished fourth at the 2022 BIG EAST Championship presented by JEEP. CU's 292.17 scoring average was the best by a Bluejay team in 20 years and included a victory last October in Stampede at the Creek.
