Rep. Don Bacon from Nebraska's 2nd District has spoken out on the recent campus protests targeting Jewish Americans. In his statement, Bacon highlighted the importance of freedom of speech and peaceful assembly, as enshrined in the First Amendment, expressing concern over the current state of affairs on campuses.
Bacon condemned the actions taking place on campuses, stating, "Our founding fathers believed the freedom of speech and to peaceably assemble was so paramount to our freedoms, that it was included in the First Amendment. Sadly, what is being ‘exercised’ across campuses in our nation is the complete opposite and is quite frankly, illegal."
The congressman went on to address the plight of Jewish American students, noting the harassment, racist remarks, restrictions, and other intolerable acts they have been subjected to. Bacon emphasized, "Jewish American students are being harassed and subjected to racist remarks, restricted from certain areas on campuses, forced to attend classes online, and many other intolerable acts. This is unacceptable and insane."
Calling for action, Bacon urged President Biden to intervene, stating, "President Biden needs to take the lead and have the FBI enforce Title XI for the safety of our Jewish American citizens." Additionally, he proposed strict consequences for those involved in the protests, suggesting that students or faculty on visas found participating in such actions should be immediately expelled from the country.
As tensions rise on campuses nationwide, Rep. Don Bacon's statement underscores the need for swift and decisive measures to protect the rights and safety of all individuals, particularly those targeted by acts of discrimination and intolerance.
