Today, Representative Don Bacon from Nebraska's 2nd District announced the nomination of 17 high school students to military academies. This recognition is a significant step for these students who aspire to serve in the armed forces.

"Serving our country is one of the greatest sacrifices anyone can make, and these 17 individuals have demonstrated stunning qualifications to earn nominations into one of the military academies to start their careers," said Bacon. "I offer my congratulations not only to them, but to their parents, family and teachers who have supported them on their quest for this first assignment!"

The nominated students and their selected academies are as follows:

- Andrew Calub from Omaha Westview High School – Air Force

- Amelia Engle from Concordia High School - Air Force, Navy

- Piper Hagen from Westside High School - Army, Navy, Merchant Marines

- Henry Hansen from Millard West High School - Air Force, Army, Navy, Merchant Marines

- Grace Leininger from Omaha Duchesne Academy - Air Force, Army, Navy, Merchant Marines

- Zander Miller from Omaha Central High School - Air Force, Army

- William McDermott from Omaha Creighton Prep - Air Force, Army, Navy, Merchant Marines

- Julian Newbauer from Elkhorn North High School - Air Force, Army, Navy, Merchant Marines

- Casey Olson from Millard West High School – Air Force, Navy, Army, Merchant Marines

- John O’ Neill from Papillion LaVista High School – Air Force, Army, Merchant Marines
